What is automated data processing?  It is a method for taking a manual process of entering and filing data and converting it to an automatic process.  It sounds simple enough, but in the business world where time is money it can mean a bundle of savings.

QDP Corporation began using automated data processing several years ago for our WinUltra Order Tally System for fund raising companies.  At the time, companies would receive a school's order forms from a fund raiser and have to manually type each item into the computer to generate reports.  We knew there had to be a better (and faster) way.

That's when we incorporated Cardiff Software's TELEform Information Capture System.  Using a high-speed scanner, we are able to scan order forms at a rate of 40 per minute.  We then let the system evaluate the order forms overnight (or right away if we are in a hurry) and come in the next morning to verify them. It is amazing how well the system deciphers the handwriting on these forms.

Have you ever seen a stack of order forms from a fundraiser?  They go through the abuse of backpacks, coffee stains, dirty hands, you name it.  And the TELEform system is still able to decipher most of handwriting on these forms.

TELEform works by capturing data you use everyday - specifically forms that you process.  Forms can be captured through several mediums, documents are then converted into computer images that can be viewed on screen. TELEform then reads the forms and deciphers the hand writing.  It flags anything that it questions.

Next, you verify the forms. This is a very simply process where the forms are displayed one at a time on the screen.  You can set the program to verify every field or just the fields that it questions.  Your data entry workers simply press the Enter key to accept fields.  If an error is found, they simply type in the correct information and press Enter.

This reduces fatigue and speeds entry in a couple of ways.  First, workers do not have to handle the forms and their eyes do not have to go back and forth between the form and the screen.  Everything is on the screen.  Second, the workers do not have to type all of the information in since it is scanned.  They only have to verify the information.
