Types of Scanners
Hand-Held
We have worked with a few different brands and quality levels. We like the heavy-duty, industrial type hand guns . . . that put out an exceptionally strong laser.
Advantages:
- Shoot the products in the tub without having to touch them (for an average order of 8-12 items, normally).
Other Considerations:
- Does tie up one hand.
- Fatigue from holding the gun for long periods. We recommend rotating personnel anyway, to ensure the person running the scanner is alert.
- You do not have to aim and hit each barcode, and may have to turn either the gun, or the product, to enable the laser to cross the code.
Counter
These mount flush into the table and you pass items over them (grocery store style).
Advantages:
- Hands free operation.
- Use two hands to move product quickly.
- Criss-cross grid of light lasers will cross a moving barcode without having to turn the product.
Other Considerations:
- Need to scan from one container into another, which means touching each item.
- Super bright light in the packing room (7ft ceiling with lots of shop lights, for example) can lessen the scanner effectiveness.
Combination (360 Degree)
Combination of a counter scanner with a vertical scanner next to it.
Advantages:
- Picks up the bar code no matter (almost) where it is.
- Hands free operation.
- Use two hands to move product quickly.
- Faster operation due to less time presenting the bar code to the scanner or aiming the gun at the bar code.
Other Considerations:
- More expensive, about $800 more than our top of the line hand scanner.
Pedestal
Advantages:
- Same as the counter scanner.
Other Considerations:
- Same as the counter scanner.
Support Options
We support software and all scanners that we sell. This includes receiving the scanner, checking out to verify that it is set up and functioning properly prior to shipping to you. It also includes Express Replacement (see below) on all new scanners purchased at retail price.
Express Replacement
During the time that your scanner is under warranty, should it need to be sent off for a warranty covered repair, we will expedite you a scanner to use while yours is being repaired.
- We take care of getting the return authorization for you and send you detailed instructions on how to ship and insure the scanner.
- We ship you a loaner scanner. You will be invoiced for the loaner but credited the full amount if it is received back within 1 week from the time your warranty repaired scanner is returned to you.
- Not available for scanners purchase elsewhere, for refurbished scanners, or for scanners purchased at discount.
