Here is a sample of our Catalog Entry Screen (click on the picture to see it enlarged). Notice how line items are listed separately? This makes it much easier to verify your accuracy.

Catalog Entry Screen

Our final DOS version 7.2 and first Windows version 1.0 were almost identical in capabilities. Only the format changed . . . from using Function Keys to pointing and clicking with a mouse. But with the introduction of v1.1 and now 1.2, the differences are becoming more distinct. And also, newer technology is going to soon render older versions more difficult to use.

  • Catalog Data Entry. Still, the single biggest difference and the most significant reason to upgrade to Windows is the new Catalog Data Entry Screen. Catalog Data Entry refers to the newer order forms where you are entering item numbers and quantities instead of the totals of the grid columns as in the past. Windows v1.1 enables you to select an alternative entry screen where each item you enter is listed in the order you entered it . . . so that when you finish with a seller's order, you can look at the screen and the order form and see the items listed in the same order.
  • Pentium II compatible. The older DOS versions of Ultra operated fine on computers powered by a Pentium processor. But the Pentium II presented some problems. We have upgraded our DOS version 7.2 to be compatible with the Pentium II, so users who want to stay in the DOS environment and upgrade their computers can upgrade to v7.2. We cannot make earlier versions P2 compatible.
  • Easier to learn. Those of us who have been using computers for a while are still comfortable with the DOS commands, but more and more of the people you are hiring to do Data Entry have been taught in a Windows environment. They will actually find the format easier than the experienced DOS users.
  • Better and longer tech support. We can no longer support some of the older versions of Ultra and will be discontinuing support for some of the others at the end of Spring '99 and December '99. Click here to read about our Tech Support changes. Also, most of the tech support Q & A being posted to our web site is for the Windows versions of Ultra.

New in Version 1.2

  • All Windows - no more DOS.
    • all printing goes through Windows and your selected printer
    • Regular Data Entry screen (previously a DOS screen) is re-designed and now in a Windows format.
  • F1 Help. The User's Guide is automatically installed as well, and can be accessed by pressing F1.
  • Minor file restructuring in purchase ordering and inventory.
  • Printing. Option to save printer configuration and font, instead of selecting each time.
    • We are using the "User Defined" paper settings in your Windows printer.
    • Because we are going through Windows instead of communicating directly with your printer, the print driver becomes more important. It may become necessary for you to find and install a different driver than the one that comes with the printer. We will describe the print driver capabilities you need or that we recommend, but retrieving it (usually from the printer web site free of charge) and installing it is your responsibility.
  • Batch Printing. We had this capability in the DOS version but, unintentionally, lost it when we converted to Windows. It is back.
  • Larger Brochures. In DOS you could tally up to 300 items. We had attempted to increase that in Windows v1.0 and 1.1, but the combination of DOS/Windows was more difficult than we anticipated. In v1.2, it is closer to 750.

Upgrading

  • We encourage the Trial version first, as we cannot refund money after the software purchase. You should do everything with the trial that you anticipate doing with the program and satisfy yourself that it is doing what you need.
  • Purchase the upgrade with the clear understanding that we are moving in a direction that will eventually include charges for various types of support.

Pricing

  • from DOS - $995
  • from v1.x - $250

Versions Available for Upgrade or Purchase

DOS v7.2

Our Final DOS version, v7.2, is no longer available. New users may start with our Windows v1.2.

Windows v1.1

Version 1.2 is now available, and we recommend going to that version. However, we also know that some people like staying a version or two behind the "latest and greatest" and we will still ship v1.1 upon request.

Windows v1.2

Now being released.
